Outsourcing of IT services is a common element in private companies' structures aimed at reducing costs as well as improving quality and service levels through economies of scale and specialization. These concepts also apply to scientific institutions.
Scionics has significant outsourcing experience and offers services for parts or all of a research institution's IT needs, such as:
Outsourced services can be highly flexible and responsive allowing quick adjustments to needs and demands.
Outsourced staff benefit from the depth of knowledge of the provider and are not limited solely to the internal environment.
Interaction with other organizations can prevent the IT staff from becoming entrenched in existing processes or technology.
Staff have more opportunities for advancement, preventing stagnation and lack of motivation.
The Scionics Bioinformatics team has more than 10 years of experience analyzing biological datasets both large and small. On the small scale, we enable classical bioinformatics projects, such as predicting the function and evolutionary history of a single uncharacterised gene or protein using sequence or structural information. On the large scale, we can handle the datasets that result from global analyses using ‘omics data.
In particular, we have strong expertise in deep sequencing / NGS data analysis with typical applications including differential gene expression analysis for RNA-Seq data, peak calling and annotation for ChIP-Seq data, and de novo assembly and annotation of transcriptomes. All of our workflows include extensive reporting and quality control steps so that you can be confident in the data analysis we provide. A qualified bioinformatician will also walk you through your report to answer any questions you may have and suggest potential further analysis steps. We are also happy to discuss your specific biological question and consult on potential additional strategies that may be of value.
